De Forgotten: Reimagining a Forgotten Jacket

For over six years, this jacket sat in my closet unused and unappreciated due to its bulky pockets, awkward structure, and occasional itchiness. As I embarked on my journey into fashion design, teaching myself how to sew from scratch, I saw an opportunity to transform this forgotten piece into something uniquely mine.
I deconstructed the jacket entirely and reimagined its form using only its original fabric. I removed the collar, shortened the length, and redesigned the pockets to better reflect my vision. The process wasn’t without challenges especially at the neck, which resisted every attempt at perfection despite multiple revisions. Yet, each setback became a lesson in creativity and perseverance.
In the end, the jacket emerged as a testament to the power of reinvention and the growth I’ve experienced on my self-taught journey. This piece not only marks a personal milestone but also embodies my commitment to transforming old ideas into new opportunities, paving the way for the designer I aspire to be.
